Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is stepping up his campaign in Minas Gerais ahead of Brazil’s presidential runoff, seeking to win over swing voters and millions who abstained in the first round. At a major rally in Belo Horizonte, Lula’s supporters highlighted his social programmes and their impact on poorer Brazilians.
Supporter Debora Goncalvez says Lula’s policies have made a positive difference, while the campaign is warning voters about what could be at stake if rival Jair Bolsonaro remains in power. Bolsonaro is also campaigning actively in the region as both candidates seek to strengthen their support.
Al Jazeera’s Lucia Newman reports from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.
