EU leaders have rallied around Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a Brussels summit, as his relationship with US President Donald Trump deteriorates.
Al Jazeera’s Rosie Birchard says Zelenskyy is unhappy about a diesel deal Washington struck with Moscow. Trump blames Zelenskyy for the failed US attempt to unilaterally declare an end to Russian and Ukrainian strikes on energy sites.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU supported Trump’s energy ceasefire, but that Russia did not respect it “not a single minute”, so the EU has to increase pressure on Russia.
Zelenskyy appeared more careful. Asked whether he thought Trump was using him as a scapegoat, he paused and said: “This is my answer.”
