In India, Delhi police shut down six metro stations as opposition parties marched to the supreme court in protest against a controversial revision of voter lists that has sparked days of unrest in the capital involving the gen Z-led Cockroach Janta party (CJP).

Opposition parties allege Muslim voters and other minorities, who are unlikely to support the Hindu nationalist ruling Bharatiya Janata party, are disproportionately affected by the deletions – charges both the poll panel and BJP reject.

In Spain, unions have called for a general strike for 11 November over the housing crisis, the latest in a series of demonstrations after the eviction of 87-year-old Madrid resident Maricarmen Abasca, who died last week.

French student unions have vowed to continue protesting over education funding inequality, with larger demonstrations expected later in the week, while in Belgium riot police used water cannons to disperse protesters demonstrating in Brussels against government budget cuts affecting education and workers’ rights on Friday.

And in Brazil, the incumbent president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took part in a rally in São Paulo on Sunday, organised by students and scientific communities to defend democracy and public education.
