Ethiopia and Eritrea have both appealed to the UN Security Council to intervene because of escalating tensions between the two countries.
Ethiopia has accused Eritrea of a “blatant act of aggression”, claiming its neighbour deployed troops 60 kilometres inside Ethiopian territory.
Eritrea has rejected the accusation and, in a letter to the UN on Saturday, called on the Security Council to condemn what it described as Ethiopia’s “deplorable declaration of war”.
